Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game that has taken the gaming world by storm since its release in September 2020. The game, developed by Chinese game developer miHoYo, has amassed a massive player base, with millions of downloads worldwide. One of the game’s key features is its unique and immersive storyline, which has inspired players to take action in the real world. In particular, many players have been motivated to donate to charity, with thousands of players contributing to Project Hope, a charity that provides educational support and resources to children in need.
The concept of charity is not new to Genshin Impact. In fact, the game itself has a built-in donation system that allows players to contribute to real-world causes. For example, miHoYo has previously collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund to raise funds for conservation efforts. However, it was a player-led initiative that saw a surge in donations to Project Hope.
The idea started when a Genshin Impact player in China posted on Weibo, a popular social media platform in China, about their desire to donate to charity. The post quickly gained traction, with other players expressing their interest in donating as well. The player then suggested that they all donate to Project Hope, which provides educational resources to children in poverty in China.
Word of the initiative spread quickly across social media, with players sharing screenshots of their donation receipts and encouraging others to donate as well. Within days, thousands of players had donated to the cause, with many contributing small amounts that added up to significant sums.
The initiative quickly gained media attention, with news outlets reporting on the surge in donations to Project Hope. According to reports, the charity received over 1 million yuan (approximately $154,000 USD) in donations in just a few days. The surge in donations was credited to Genshin Impact players, with many expressing their admiration for the game’s storyline and its message of helping those in need.
Even while members of the Genshin Impact community can occasionally disagree with one another, there have been times when they came together in spirit for the benefit of all. Chinese players of the game were recently moved to donate to the Project Hope charity after being moved by a preview for the impending five-star character, Dehya.
The teaser mentioned the enormous barrier separating Sumeru’s jungle and desert. The wall creates a substantial opportunity gap for people on either side as well as a difference in beliefs. Children can obtain schooling, free healthcare, and live in a stable atmosphere amid the wealthy rainforest teeming with life. On the other end of the spectrum, the desert has ongoing sandstorms, lacks a formal education system, and is rife with tribal strife.
Dehya brings a child to Sumeru City at the end of the teaser and donates her entire life’s savings to help desert orphans. She gave the charity the moniker “The Wall of Hope” to represent how the wall was actually constructed to protect those within rather than to keep desert people out.
Chinese gamers were moved by Dehya’s kind donation and started pushing one another to make charitable contributions. The work is directed toward a cause aptly known as Project Hope, which helps kids in China who are unable to receive a contemporary education. According to reports, donors have used Dehya’s name and the names of other HoYoverse gaming characters to make donations. The most common donation amount is 648 yen, which is the cost of the most costly Genesis Crystal pack offered by Genshin Impact.
Players have choose to follow Dehya’s example by giving donations for the future of underprivileged children rather than purchasing packs, like Dehya did. Following a Reddit post, this sweet scene gained worldwide attention and touched the hearts of countless. Despite the controversies surrounding Dehya’s character kit, there is no doubt that her heart has had an impact on the community unlike anything Genshin Impact has ever had.
